What is Epi-Max™?

Product Description
Epi-Max™ is a sterile cellulose acetate wound dressing coated with an ointment containing polyethylene glycols and a combination of metal ions.


Does Epi-Max™ require a prescription?
Federal Law (USA) restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician or licensed healthcare practitioner.


What types of wounds is Epi-Max™ indicated for?
Epi-Max™® is indicated for use as a wound dressing to manage diabetic skin ulcers, pressure ulcers (stages I-IV), stasis ulcers, skin irritations, abrasions and cuts.


Mode of Action
Epi-Max™ is designed to promote a moist wound environment and protect from mechanical trauma. Epi-Max™ is permeable to both air and wound exudates.


Are there any product warnings?
People who experience dermal irritation while using Epi-Max™ should discontinue use.


Can I expect to see immediate results?
Epi-Max™ starts to work immediately. Visible results will vary depending on the wound type, severity, location, and other clinical factors.


How do I apply and remove Epi-Max™?

Instructions for Use

Dressing Application
  1. Carefully inspect the wound.
  2. Gently cleanse the wound using standard wound care practices.
  3. Remove an individual Epi-Max™ dressing from its packaging. Apply the Epi-Max™ dressingdirectly over the wound ensuring maximum contact with the wound surface
    Note: If the package is open or damaged, sterility is not assured. Do not use.
  4. Epi-Max™ dressing may be secured in place with a secondary dressing and tape if required.

Dressing Change

  1. Change dressing every 24 hours.
  2. Remove any secondary dressings or adhesive tape.
  3. Gently remove the Epi-Max™ dressing.
    Note: If Epi-Max™ sticks to the wound, moisten it with saline solution to facilitate dressing removal.
  4. Inspect and clean the wound using standard wound care practices.
  5. Apply a new Epi-Max™ dressing and secondary cover dressing.

Can out-patients apply Epi-Max™ themselves?
Most patients can be taught how to apply and remove Epi-Max™ dressings on their own. However, the decision as to whether or not the patient should change their own dressings outside of the healthcare facility should be decided by the attending healthcare professional.


How often should I change Epi-Max™ dressings?
Epi-Max™ dressings should be changed once every 24 hours.


Can Epi-Max™ be cut to the size and shape of a wound?
Yes, Epi-Max™ can be cut in order to customize it to fit the size and shape of the wound; however, once opened the dressing is no longer sterile.


How many dressings come in one box?
There are 10 sterile Epi-Max™ dressings (4 in x 4 in) in each box.


Where is Epi-Max™ available?
Epi-Max™ is available only in the United States.


Is Epi-Max™ Reimbursed?
Yes – The Medicare reimbursement HCPCS code is A6231; Gauze, impregnated hydrogel, for direct wound contact, pad size 16 sq. in. or less. Reimbursement information is available by calling 800 814-3091.
